This class can open the door to internships, jobs, and volunteer opportunities with local organizations, and has helped many students to decide on careers and college majors.
How Does the Class Work?
In the first semester, students build a knowledge base: we learn some basic environmental science and biology, study the history of environmental destruction in the United States, and explore a variety of current issues like water pollution, climate change, endangered species, hunting, and much more.
In the second semester, students do two projects: one is short, and structured by the teacher, to help students build project skills. For our second project, students collaborate with one another to design and implement their own project to address a real environmental issue in our community.
